If Purdy and Geno switched places, would the Niners win the west?

The 49ers have more talent right now. While it's clear Purdy is more talented than anyone thought, I think Geno could easily win in the 49ers offense. He's much quicker getting the ball out than Russ ever was, which is the key to Shanahananigan's offense.

It's a weird question.

The Niners were dominant in the NFC West and Purdy has one Game-Winning Drive in 2 years (21 games started; super small sample size) which means that he is protecting a lead and not chasing points.

In Geno's 32 starts with the Seahawks, he has eight Game-Winning Drives in two years and he had bottom tier DEF for two years.

Purdy has an Approximate Value (Pro Football Reference stat) of 24 vs. Geno's 29. Statistically they're similar but Geno is doing it with a worst DEF and a worse play-caller. Niner fans not taking that into account want to believe that Purdy is flawless; Purdy was deep on the depth chart and only played due to injury.

Credit Shannahan for getting amazing play from Purdy but it would be incredibly foolish to think that it was all Purdy who made the Niners the team they are rather than controlling his use.

Yes, Geno hypothetically could if the 49ers maintain their defense, and running game. They made the Super Bowl with Jimmy flippin' Garapolo.

Kyle built what Pete failed for the last 8 years to build. Top defense, top running game, QB plays off of that.

Instead Seattle QBs have had to play hero ball far too often to overcome an underwhelming coaching staff which led to bad/worn out defenses that couldn't get off the field.

Kyle however is the worst best coach in the league, he has choked away double digit leads in the 4th qtr NFCCGs and 3 Superbowls. Kyle is the ultimate choke artist. But he understands how to build a team, mostly. Paying Purdy will screw that team up, combined with key stars aging out. The Rams are the bigger threat, unless Stafford gets injured.

I like PFR's Appoximate Value rating. Smith is 27 over the last 2 seasons. I was under the impression that the value is for the whole season including playoffs rather than regular season starts or total appearances, (but I couldn't find confirmation either way). Purdy has 614 regular season passes to Smith's 1071 over the same time period, so Smith would be expected to generate higher stat totals. Either way it's both time played and performance based.
