Jamal Adams signs with Titans

Oh the disappointment!

Good for him I guess. I have no reason to wish him ill. The contract details will be interesting.

Can’t ever hate Jamal, dudes body just gave out on him. But everytime he played he put his heart in it. I hope he balls out

He signed for peanuts after we paid him so much.

So far no $ or number of years has been revealed. Edit:Rapoport says it’s one year and “not a lot of money.”

Camp body?

People shit on his acquisition but it absolutely worked. His first season they went 12-4 with a diverse, dynamic defense. Then Russ folded under the pressure of being given an offense he always wanted.

Russ has nothing to do with why I want him gone. He was a window into late career Carroll who seemed to convince himself yearly that we were one player away and would make an objectively bad mood that had it actually worked would have been worth it but wasnt. The odds that what we were missing was a 1 dimensional pass rushing strong safety to pair with an uncreative by design defense were pretty long indeed. And then there was his personality, which I think you (@pehawk ) probably didnt mind but Im that prissy type that believes in civility and all that corny stuff so...yeah.

For me, Carroll earned a right to believe he's one or two players away. Even more, his culture probably doesn't exist without that type of optimism. These things were the cost of being the greatest, culture-building coach of all-time. As was signing guys for a bit more than we should.

You have to take the good with the bad.

Oh, for sure. I mean, dont get me wrong. Im an absolute Carroll disciple..I have given his book to people, Ive incorporated his philosophy into my management style, etc.

BUT we are all sadly mortal, and the more we got removed from the Super Bowls.. in hindsight it does feel like sometimes the optimism slipped into a bit of self delusion, for both Pete and Russ, Russ more so. The year we acquired the Jets DT..it felt a bit forced.. Adams was expensive and most teams dont spend on Safety like we did, but I hoped Pete saw something .

But I agree.. you have to take the good with the bad and the goods with Pete far outweighed the bad and in 5 years we may be sitting here typing how we should have never have let him go til he wanted to go!

Pete lost this ability to make mistakes the more he made them. It wasn’t just Jamal, it wasn’t just Quandre, it was year after year of free agents and duds that didn’t work out. If anything he had a longer leash than most.

The same could have happened to Kyle Shanahan. He bet the farm on a left tackle who’d been diagnosed with a cancerous growth on his head, and a couple years later traded a 2, 3 and 4 for a running back who had just returned from IR. Plus three first rounders for Trey Lance. That latter mistake alone would have cost most coaches their exit, but Kyle rolled the dice on a seventh rounder no one had heard of. Who went to the Super Bowl.

So much of this really is luck.

I'm actually offended by using Quandre as an example. Dude was a lockerroom favorite with a wink/nod agreement to get a new contract after the season. If they just disregarded all of that, well, then your the Jets, Raiders, or some other shit organization.

Ugh...like wtaf?

You wanted to keep Quandre? At his contract price?

He’s a great human being, but there are lots of pro bowl and all pro safeties out there, hence his not being signed by anyone.

When they signed him? You're damn right I wanted to sign him. Doing so was paramount to Pete's culture.
